| On a crisp Spring day back in 1989, a box of kittens was brought into our clinic by a local Humane Society member. Their mother had died and the volunteer was requesting that we euthenize the kittens fearing an infection with Feline Leukemia Virus. We tested two of them and found Leukemia, but one little gray kitten was healthy looking, active, and had a negative FELV test. We decided to keep the youngster and make her our clinic mascot. She was named Mrs. Awiggins after the character on the Carol Burnett show, but everyone just called her Wiggy. She always had a keen ability to "read" both dogs and cats and seemed to know whom she could trust. When not visiting in the waiting room, the exam rooms, or begging for food, she preferred to spend her days sunning herself in a window that overlooked the parking lot of our clinic. We lost Wiggy to multiple ilnesses in 2007, but her spirit lives on in every corner of the clinic. |
